Eaten on Epiphany, Galette des Rois is a simple buttery puff pastry tart filled generously with frangipane and traditionally baked with a fève (once a fava bean, now a ceramic trinket) inside.
Once the galette has been sliced up, the youngest in the room goes under the table with his or her eyes closed and randomly serves the slices to everyone. The person who then finds the fève in their slice will be crowned King or Queen for the entire day.
Putting a spin on tradition, we will be replacing the fava bean/ceramic trinket with a whole almond and the King or Queen of the day shall wear a silver paper crown and receive a special edition Arôme pastry magnet (made in house) for keeps.
Happy Epiphany Day!
